Helping to establish a vision for a university

Challenge:  An expansion for a university can involve many stakeholders who need to understand the rationale for the expansion and support it.  The university decided that as part of this process they needed to rethink their vision.  The research was designed to help identify and test support for the key elements of this vision.

Solution: A multi-stage research process was undertaken that involved: internal in-depth interviews with senior university administrators and Deans and external community opinion leaders; in-person and online focus groups with grade 12 students, parents, students at the university, and alumni; and online surveys with nine stakeholder groups.

Results: As a result of the “Envisioning” research the university adopted a new vision and plan for growth that was subsequently communicated to its various stakeholders.
